In the city I live in, no fewer than one in one streets is littered with gravel and the ever-present orange and white road barrels. I don't know the official name for those damn things, but they're more common than dead possums and marijuana arrests combined. Out of exasperated curiosity I counted the number of road barrels in a quarter mile stretch near my grandparents' house. It was very close to 200. The irony is that absolutely NO roadwork is being done on that particular stretch yet. &lt;br /&gt;This overabundance makes me think that there exists a TDOT mafia scam. Although the barrels are no doubt cheap to manufacture, TDOT is skimming off the top of the allotted tax dollars set aside for them. Everybody wins but the tax payers. TDOT gets extra money so that it can pay its workers to loaf around and take forever to finish its projects. The guy who owns the company that makes them is a very fat and happy man.
